Energy Audits
Energy Audits
An energy audit is the first step to determine how much energy your home or business consumes and to evaluate the steps to take to make that facility more energy efficient. An audit will show you problems and improvement that can save money and energy over time when corrected.

An energy audit includes a blower door test is done to test the envelope of the building. The test determines the amount of air that escapes or intrudes the home when it is under a specific amount of air pressure.
After the initial audit is performed, our team will recommend the steps to reduce the overall energy use in your building. After all recommended improvements have been made, a post test can be done to determine the impact of the improvements.
Energy audits can be completed on both existing buildings and buildings that are under construction.
Air Sealing
Many air leaks and drafts are easy to find because you can feel air moving through them, especially around windows and doors. There are many other holes in a home’s exterior that can’t easily be seen be homeowners. Air leaks in attics, basements, and crawlspaces are typically bigger problems and allow greater amounts of energy to escape.
Why is air sealing important?
- Approximately 60% of all air leaks are in a home’s attic.
- Heat loss in a basement can be as much as 25%
- Heat loss from exterior walls is approximately 15%
This air leakage results in wasted energy, moisture problems in most homes, and wasted money.
Air sealing the exterior of your building (outer walls, ceiling, windows, doors, and floors) is the most cost-effective way to improve energy efficiency and comfort. Having your building air sealed by a qualified contractor can result in significant savings on heating and cooling costs.
